Essential: Experience working with children or adults with autism and learning disabilities. Experience of working within a family home. Ability to swim. Non-Smoker/Vaper. Confident around dogs. High levels of common sense
Desirable: Someone who likes the outdoors, walks and nature.
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: 2 consecutive days a week, except Fridays. 8.00am to 6.00pm (9.00am to 7.00pm in school holidays)

About this client/child:
Marcus (17) lives at home with his brother (14) Mum, Dad, and a small dog who he likes to walk. Marcus has a love of animals, especially pigs and horses - he likes to horse ride! Being outdoors in nature, walking, visiting parks and playgrounds are some of his great enjoyments. Marcus is intrigued with tractors and other vehicles and has many toy vehicles he likes to line up and play with. Marcus has Autism, Epilepsy, Anxiety, behaviours that may challenge and severe food allergies that can cause anaphylaxis; he always requires supervision, as well as support with personal care.
Overview of role:
In term time, you’ll support Marcus with his routine before school so he can start his day positively. His support worker then takes Marcus to school. Whilst Marcus is at school there will be some duties related to Marcus’ care; light cleaning, shopping, preparing, and cooking Marcus’ food with special dietary requirements, organizing resources and activities for Marcus to do inside and outside of his home, tidying his room and changing bed sheets. School pick-up is at 3.30pm followed by organised activities and an evening routine. After school and in the school holidays, Marcus will often go trampolining, swimming, walking, or visiting parks and National Trust grounds, so organising and participating in these will be part of his Support Workers role. Marcus likes routine which give him boundaries and comfort, his support worker will understand the importance of this. He always requires full supervision; when resting in his room there is a monitor for the support worker to use in case of anxiety or seizures. Hours: Any 2 full days per week (not Fridays), 8.00am to 6.00pm (9.00am to 7.00pm school holidays). Pay: £18.00 gross per hour.
Who this job would suit:
This is a great position for someone that has good experience of working with people with autism and learning disabilities, and someone that has masses of common sense to be able to look for signs of anxiety, early signs of a seizure and be fully aware and sensitive to severe food allergies and what this could mean. Marcus needs someone energetic and enthusiastic. Someone who understands the importance of routine, is confident to de-escalate challenging behaviours in positive ways, and someone willing to work alongside Mum and Dad whilst being fully trained by them.
