Learn to draw from observation and about fundamental ideas of drawing in this all-day workshop.
This practical drawing workshop focuses on covering a broad overview of observational drawing, where we will learn to better draw what we see. The workshop will be a combination of learning about different drawing ideas and concepts, and practical exercises where we can apply what we learn.
This workshop is intended for anyone who is interested in learning more about drawing. Both beginners and more experienced artists are welcome to join. During the day, we will cover drawing in a broader sense, making it a good introduction as well as a chance to try new approaches.

What to Expect

The morning half of the workshop will focus on directly observed qualities such as shape, contour and angles, that will help with transferring what we see directly to the page.
The afternoon will cover more indirect qualities, such as form, space and rhythm. These are ideas that stem from our understanding of the subject, that drawing can allow us to express more directly in our work.
Expect to work from a variety of different sources through this workshop, such as still life, imagery, and video.
Tutor Lancelot Richardson will be leading the workshop, providing tutored sections and will be on hand to offer assistance throughout the day.
The workshop runs from 10am-5pm on Saturday 1st April, with a 1 hour lunch break from 1-2pm. There will also be extra teabreaks in the day.
You may arrive at 9:45am onwards. When you arrive, please head for the large blue door next to the Managers Office, on the New England Street side of the building. Please ring the number on the door to be let in.
All materials are included in the cost of the workshop. Attendees are welcome to bring their own drawing materials, and may want to bring a folder to put completed drawings into at the end.
Running of the Session and Accesibility

When you arrive at the building, head to the front door next to the building manager's office. The doors are locked at the weekend, so please call the phone number on the door to be let in.
The building has a wheelchair ramp, lifts and accessible toilets. Unfortunately, the building does not provide parking. If you have access needs, please get in touch so we can help you enjoy life classes.
Illness and Covid

Please do not attend this workshop if you have covid, flu, are otherwise infectious or showing similar symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, fever, etc. You will receive a refund as well as our appreciation! Please get in touch ASAP so your place on the workshop can be offered to someone else.
The studio has an industrial grade air filter and is well ventilated with high ceilings.
