About this client/child:
Ocean (11) is an intelligent young boy who lives at home with his Mum and Dad, who both work from home and sometimes travel separately for work. Ocean enjoys music, dancing, martial arts training, science documentaries, immersive exhibitions and travelling… amongst many other cultural arts and activities. He does not like therapy, Ocean is currently working through the Year 6 curriculum at home, but his Mum and Dad’s aim is to enrol him in mainstream school by September so he can work alongside peers and be part of the social environment too. Ocean is non-verbal and uses an iPad to communicate and complete his schoolwork. He requires some assistance with personal care, although this is more to prompt and complete. Ocean has auto immunity and suffers from the London pollen in summer, so the family’s aim is to travel away for the summer months.
Overview of role:
The main structure of Ocean’s Day will be his school education (following the Year 6 curriculum) and physical activities, such as walking/playing in the park, attending dance class or martial arts. Ocean requires a Learning Support Assistant to believe in him and his education, to respect the way he learns and communicates. With his Speech and language therapists’ input, you’ll be able to support Ocean in the most positive ways. In September Ocean would like to start attending school, and his learning support assistant will be there with him throughout the day to support him in each lesson, help him build up his communication and independent skills too. Hours: 11.00am to 7.00pm Monday to Friday, possibly changing to 8.30am to 4.30pm in September. Wage: Up to £20.00 gross per hour, £41,600 gross annual wage.
