Diesel Technician with NVQ Level 3 Required - Immediate Start 18 month contract GBP25.65 per hour (umbrella paid) NVQ Level 3 required Day shifts (minimum 36 hours but likely to be 45 hours per week with overtime regularly) Location: Folkstone, Kent The Situation: This is an 18-month contract role as part of a key engineering service project. You will be covering for several different Technicians when they are away from the depot, filling in for them whilst they are not able to complete their usual maintenance activities. You will be treated in much the same way as permanent staff and receive the same training offered to them, to enhance your skills and help you reach safety critical competency on the locomotives at the depot. The role will often be light, short schedule examinations of the vehicle and more basic mechanical component changes such as radiators and power pack changes. Occasionally you will change more heavy mechanical components at times such as wheelsets and bogies, you will have power assisted cranes and movement equipment for positioning these components when working on them. You will sometimes be required to complete basic electrical fault finding using electrical test instrumentation (multimeters, flukes etc) if responding to a breakdown or you know about a potential fault that is incoming to the depot. Role and Responsibilities: Following mechanical production, and maintenance procedures such as VMI's and VMOI's (experience of working to similar written engineering instructions would be suitable) Working to engineering drawings and schematics Using a variety of mechanical hand and power tooling, measuring tools and test equipment Completing mechanical examinations, overhaul, and maintenance of diesel locomotive systems (training on diesel systems can be provided for candidates with limited experience of this) Occasional electrical fault finding at times using multimeters, flukes etc Occasional electrical fitting of some basic components such as headlights, fuses, wires, and crimping Prep and service events, such as refuelling and other fluid and filter changes On occasions you will work away from the depot at other sidings on the rail network, travel is provided for this inside of working hours. In some very occasional cases, there may be requirements for overnight stays when responding to breakdowns. Adherence to Health & Safety standards This role is a great first step on the ladder within the rail industry. This role can offer progression to a permanent hire as the company is in a rapid state of growth, due to increased demand on the freight industry. The Criteria Required: You must be within commutable distance of (insert location) Depot You must have experience of working on heavy mechanical components in a vehicle engineering setting. Must be able to communicate professionally at all levels as contact with customers is likely in a lot of cases. Must be able to read and work to schematics and technical written instructions. Must have an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline. Ideally you will have some electrical experience and some diesel experience, however these are not essential criteria to apply as some training can be offered. Rate This is a contract position for 18 months paying a fixed, all hours, rate of GBP25.65 per hour on an umbrella paid basis. You will be employed through Ford & Stanley during this time, with support offered to facilitate your payroll through a payroll company.
