Sue Ross Legal are recruiting for a Senior Child Care Solicitor on behalf of a well-respected, successful Law firm in Sheffield. The successful candidate will be expected to run a caseload consisting primarily of public childcare law work and also private law Children Act case work. Duties will include; Dealing with general correspondence and telephone queries Dealing with clients requiring specialist childcare law advice, and some private law Children Act work in person Providing written advice to the client and manage the client s expectations Maintaining a diary system including court dates, limitation dates and timetables set by courts/tribunals Producing documents and instructions and obtaining expert reports Negotiating settlements with other parties Attending court Conducting own advocacy Briefing counsel Assessing clients for public funding/legal representation Submitting interim and final bills on a regular basis and claim disbursements Miscellaneous; Promoting the business and the work of the Children Team externally, with the aim of increasing the number of clients of the team and building relationships with external organisations Liaising with the Legal Aid Agency Maintaining a knowledge of changes in the law and confidentiality procedures Ensuring that cases are conducted in accordance with Law Society guidelines and that the regulations and procedures of the Legal Aid Agency are adhered to in respect of publicly funded matters and the Legal Aid Agency Specialist Quality Mark Standards. Meeting chargeable time and financial targets, as agreed with the Head of the Children Team Attending meetings and training sessions, where relevant to the job holder s work Supervising other fee earners in the department and providing support to other team members as necessary Leading/assisting with departmental training sessions Managing own continuing professional development To be considered for this role, you must be a qualified solicitor with at least 3 years PQE and have a strong working knowledge of public childcare law. You must have experience of conducting their own caseload, dealing with own advocacy and the ability to lead and support a team of junior staff.
