AWE are looking for a Head of Legal to join our Leadership team.
The Head of Legal will report to the Executive Director, Corporate Assurance and General Counsel and lead AWE's highly-regarded central legal team. They will also work closely with AWE's General Counsel for its central development area (CDA) construction programme, which is being operated as a semi-autonomous division within AWE, and which will draw on legal resources from AWE as a whole as well as its own internal and external team. The role-holder will be a member of the Executive Director's senior leadership team, which as well as the Head of Legal for AWE's central team and the General Counsel for the CDA, also includes leaders from the company secretarial, internal audit, assurance, and internal regulatory teams. They will also be part of the company's senior leadership team which drives company performance forward in support of the executive.

Personally, or through influencing others, representing the interests of AWE in relation to third parties, including in the context of disputes and commercial negotiations and legal / policy complianceEnsuring that the Company's activities are, where applicable, carried out in conformance with the legal process and legal strategyManaging the creation and use of standard contract and other legal documentation within the Company and managing the approval of deviations from such standardsCo-ordinate the provision of consistent, business-oriented legal advice to the Company from internal and external sourcesAct as an advocate for high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and qualityDeputise for the Executive Director of the Legal function internally and externally as required Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:
Currently admitted as a solicitor or barrister to practise in at least one jurisdiction of the United KingdomWide knowledge of English lawManagement of staff in own line of management, other staff and external providers in the provision of legal adviceApplying legal oversight at appropriate levels to complex situationsStrong relationship building skills and ability to influence at senior level Closing date - 21/03/2023
