Live out Skilled Groundsperson Opportunity - Surrey
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and passionate groundsperson to work on a beautiful private estate in the heart of the Surrey Hills. The 40-acre estate surrounds a stunning Grade-1 listed Victorian family home which features exceptional far-reaching views of the South Downs.
The groundsperson will primarily be focused on improving and maintaining the wider estate. Applicants must enjoy working outside in all weathers, and will have a high level of proven experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture or private estate work. They will have a strong work ethic, be personable, proactive and be able to take direction when required.
Applicants will have the confidence and initiative to work independently, but also maintain regular contact with the estate owners, the Head Gardeners and the estate manager. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Head Gardeners, therefore good communication skills are essential.
Candidates must have a good understanding of health and safety, especially when using garden equipment and any necessary chemicals or fertilizers. They should have an extensive understanding of seasonal garden maintenance and horticultural practices. The groundsperson must be organised, have good time management skills and be able to plan and execute duties efficiently.
Typical duties will include but are not limited to:
Lawn care, establishment and maintenance (formal, informal and meadows)
Aeration, scarification, moss and thatch control
Herbicide application when necessary
Tractor and pedestrian mowing
Hedge cutting and strimming
Leaf clearance and collection
Occasional irrigation system maintenance
Pressure washing patio areas
Maintaining paths and driveways
Perimeter fence repair and maintenance
The position also involves additional duties on the estate such as minor DIY, splitting wood for the house, basic swimming pool maintenance, basic tennis court maintenance, and general household maintenance/odd jobs.
Requirements:
NVQ level 2 or higher in Greenkeeping or demonstrable experience in the horticulture sector
Experience in operating turf maintenance machinery and spraying/lawn feeding equipment
Current driving license and the ability to commute to the job site as there are no available public transport links
Experience with the use and maintenance of a range of garden tools and machinery is essential
PA1/PA6 sprayer certificate, tractor and chainsaw certificate would be advantageous
Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 depending on experience
Holidays: 20 days plus bank holidays
Working hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am-4:00 pm or 9:00 am-5:00 pm with one hour break
Successful candidates will be subject to basic DBS checks
Location: Between Guildford and Dorking
