Description : 24 Mar, 2023
A late example of a 25/30, fitted with appealingly unusual coachwork by a little-known coachbuilder, Knibbs of Manchester, and although carrying their body plates it has been suggested that it was sub-contracted & actually built by Abbott of Farnham. The car is in very fine order, particularly following recent expenditure approaching £70,000! This included an engine overhaul, full, high quality bare metal repaint, new mohair hood & side screens, six new tyres on re-furbished wheels and more besides. The car is to original specification, including desirable QK596 headlights, matching centre spot, chrome long trumpet horns & an ST44 'gothic' tail light, all by Lucas. It is extremely smart with superb paintwork, excellent chrome plating & an imposing & impressive frontal appearance, including an array of suitable badges. The owner of the last twelve years has successfully toured France five times, Spain twice and most recently Holland, as well as UK tours from time to time. Included in the asking price of the car is the fitting of a new aluminium cylinder head, as the original one is showing signs of a minor crack and seepage of coolant, but having said that, we feel that the existing one may well soldier on for years, so as an alternative we can offer a significant discount for the car 'as is'. The choice is yours, but either way, it is a very worthwhile buy. Complete with a very desirable set of original tools, fitted into the under-seat trays, a handbook and a history file, which includes invoices, MoT certificates, correspondence, a buff logbook from the 1940s and award rosettes! Driving very nicely, offered serviced, prepared & MoT 'd.
Chassis No. GZR3 \tReg No HPA 591
Snippets: The Two Fredericks
GZR3 was ordered by & delivered to the wealthy solicitor Frederick Keith Harvey-Samuel (1880/1941) at his home of Monkswood, Hurtmore. The property dates from early 20th Century & was designed by Fostyth & Maule for their client Dr J. A Moir who commissioned Gertrude Jekyll to design the garden - it is an excellent example of her use of native plants & much of the original garden remains intact. Frederick & his brother Guy were 2nd generation solicitors and Frederick was articled to his father at Basinghall Street, London - his father was also a director of Harrods Stores Ltd. In Nov 1914 Frederick joined the Inns of Court OTC and in March 1915 he was gazetted as a 2nd Lt with Hertfordshire Regiment but due to his ill-health had to resign his commission. The 2nd owner of GZR3 was Major Frederick William Cundiff who also served his country in both WWI & II and from 1944-1951 he was a Member of Parliament. In his free time he was a keen yachtsman being a member of the Royal Mersey Yacht Club & the Royal Clyde Yacht Club & in the 1950s he was granted permission for a permanent mooring for his yacht off The Point, Rhoscolyn Bay, Anglesey where he and his wife Dr. Alice Cundiff had a property. In 1962 the Major commissioned a 98ft Sailing Ketch ''Southern Cross'' to be built by Yarrow Shipbuilders which was powered by twin diesel Gardner engines. During the 1960's the Major was a Director of Chesters Brewery which later merged with Trefalls Brewery at which time he became Deputy Chairman of the company.

About Us:
The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970's. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love.
We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.
We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and now in 2009 we carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are ten of us here. In 1999 we were awarded 'International Classic Car Dealer of the Year' by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for 'our' kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don't do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can't drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment.
Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the 'barn finds'.
