Bodied by Brewster in 1929 and supplied new to Beverly Hills, this is a very smart, correct example of a desirable car, being a full, easy access, four door cabriolet with wind up windows and removable 'B' posts, offering a variety of coachwork configurations. Last with us in 2002, now nicely finished in a lovely shade of deep, inky blue, with matching blue hood and pleated & buttoned black leather interior, all of which we feel suits the car well, enhanced by the six chrome plated wheel discs. The car is a real eyeful and incorporates a colour-matched fitted trunk at the rear, twin side-mounted spare wheels, correct lamps all round, twin bar bumpers front & rear (quarter bumpers at the back), and a nice set of instruments, the whole car being, sharp, clean and very well presented. Structurally and mechanically very good as well having been subject to expenditure circa £75,000 in recent times. Driving nicely, offered serviced, prepared & newly MoT'd. S339LR was delivered to John Francis Dillon (1884/1934) on Boxing Day 1929 at his Beverly Hills Mansion on Canon Drive. Amusingly enough there another 3 John Dillons all being involved in stage & screen!! Our John Francis Dillon started his acting career on the stage and one of his first screen roles was in The Chief's Daughter, in 1915 he directed his first film The Key to Yesterday. Throughout his career he had roles as an actor in 72 films but as a director he was involved in over 100 films with famous names such as Helen Twelvetrees, Mary Pickford, Bette Davies & Clara Bow. In his private life he was married to Edith Hallor who started her career as a Follies Girl then went on to act in 16 silent screen films. John Dillion died of a heart attack shortly before his 50th birthday whilst attending a party in Beverley Hills. During the 1950s S339LR was in Corpus Christi with Calvin Cock Jr (1918/91) who served in WWII in the US Army with the rank of 2nd Lt,. The 3rd American owner was a member of the US Navy - Joseph Goss - during his time in the Navy he was stationed at the Naval Air Station of North Island, San Diego - built in 1917 it still forms part of the largest aerospace-industrial complex in the United States Navy. Milestones of the Naval Base include 1911 - the first seaplane flight, 1914 - the first parachute jump made by a lady ''Tiny'' Broadwick, 1923 the first mid-air refuelling and the first non-stop transatlantic flight! There are many many more with famous aviators associated with North Island including Charles A. Lindbergh, Glenn Curtiss, Lt. Yamada and Ltd. Commander Earl Wingfield Spencer Jr - better known as the cuckolded husband of Wallis Simpson! The 1970s saw S339LR with Gregory Hovas whose sister became the wife of Baron Enrico di Portanova - the Portanovas were a jet-set couple who loved to entertain, after their deaths (just a few weeks apart) their property ''Arabesque'' in Acapulo Bay was inherited by Gregory Hovas who was also the couples business manager. By 1991 the Phantom had been bought by Hans Luscher of Switzerland who kept the car until 2002 when it was sold via Christies Auctioneers and acquired by the Real Car Co.

About Us:
The Real Car Company was established in 1987 by Ray Arnold & Ian Johnstone. It was a hobby that 'Got out of hand'. Our interest in cars of the type that we now sell goes back to our childhoods, and ownership back to the 1970's. Gradually more cars started passing through our hands, and by 1986 we had decided to make a full time occupation of buying and selling the cars that we love.

We started with a single car (all we could afford) which we sold quickly, and before we knew it we had 4 or 5 on our hands! This was alongside another business that we were involved in at the time. In the Spring of 1988 we gave up the other business, (exhaust systems), rented part of the premises that we still operate from now, and went full time.

We had a good start in the boom years of the late eighties, which set us up well enough for us to ride the storm of recession in the years that followed. As the years went on the number of cars going through our hands increased gradually, we built up a workforce, and now in 2009 we carry a stock of around 40 to 50 vehicles and there are ten of us here. In 1999 we were awarded 'International Classic Car Dealer of the Year' by Classic Cars Magazine. The market for 'our' kind of cars is nicely stable, generally prices are creeping upwards all the time, and we feel that investing in a car - or cars - of the type that we sell is generally a great place to put your money. Don't do it just for investment, but you can get a great deal of pleasure from these vehicles, prices are - in our opinion - unlikely to drop, and you can't drive a share certificate! Some prices in the last three or four years have moved up considerably, and these cases have shown a tremendous return on investment.

Over the last fifteen years or so we have brought home several hundred cars from the USA, and we are always looking for more. If you know of a Rolls-Royce or Bentley anywhere in the world, in absolutely any condition, please let us know. Distance no object, commissions happily paid. We always particularly enjoy the 'barn finds'.
