VINTAGE FRENCH LETTER RACK, WALL HUNG MAIL ORGANISER, LETTRES FACTURES DIVERS, NAIVE FLORAL POKERWORK PLYWOOD, 46x17cm - 1940s

Acquired from a vide maison in Mussy sur Seine, Burgundy, this plywood letter rack apparently originated from a long closed hairdresser’s.
The owner’s had it from the 1970s and they estimate it to date from the 1940s.
Scratch made in a naive style with pyrography or pokerwork decoration, it is still sound and useable.
The three partments are marked LETTRES FACTURES DIVERS (letters, bills, miscellaneous) along with a painted flower design.
In very good vintage condition with wear consistent with it’s age and use but no real damage - please examine photographs carefully for condition.
Constructed from pinned or nailed plywood or similar.
This was quite dirty on acquisition and has since had a clean and clear wax.
Although worn this is still very sound with no movement at the joints.
There is a dent to the bottom right corner but it is sound and not visible when mounted.
There is a crack to the ply on the left side of the partment but it is strong and sound.
There are tarnished brass button nails to upper edges.
The paint is thick and still bright.
The etching design appears to be made by burning pokerwork.
There is a loop to the rear for hanging.
I can find no maker’s mark.
Measures approximately:
46 cm tall, 17 cm wide, 8 cm deep,
Weighs about 800 g.
