About us
We're the Retail Banking Litigation Team, which is part of the wider Litigation & Contentious Regulatory (LCR) Team. We provide quality litigation advice and support to the Retail Banking businesses across their wide range of products and services (including current and savings accounts, credit cards, motor finance and mortgages) within the Group. As a Lawyer in the team, you will work closely with Business and Legal colleagues to deliver sound and proactive litigation advice and support to diverse business areas, across a wide range of matters.
Job Description
You'll join the Retail Banking Litigation team as a Lawyer. Working collaboratively as part of a supportive team, you'll lead on a fast-paced litigation caseload, deliver pragmatic and commercially astute litigation advice to business partners, and support them to identify, monitor and mitigate litigation risks. We will ask you to support Senior Litigation lawyers and the Head of Team in working with internal partners and external panel firms, and to help to develop strategy and processes to improve management of litigation matters. As well as leading and managing a caseload of litigation matters, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to wider LCR team and Legal & Secretariat division strategic initiatives. This role will provide you with an outstanding opportunity to further your ongoing personal and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver litigation advice and support for the Retail Bank. Working collaboratively with peers, as well as more senior and more junior colleagues, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of your caseload, including strategic case management, briefing and engaging with stakeholders, and managing external panel law firms. Support business areas in identifying and resolving litigation risks. Act as legal representative in business/divisional projects, supporting other team members and non-contentious legal colleagues. Identify and develop protocols to improve the efficiency of litigation management. We may ask you to supervise or mentor more junior team members.

Essentials
Legally qualified in England & Wales or Scotland, or with an equivalent legal qualification, and with a current legal practising certificate. A strong understanding and knowledge of the legal, technical and procedural factors affecting litigation. Excellent oral and written communication skill - the ability to communicate ideas, risks and strategies clearly and concisely. Ability to build trusting and collaborative relationships. Good awareness of the Retail Banking sector, including the relevant regulatory framework.
