Superb condition late 2009 Abarth Grande Punto - Full service history, 10 months MOT, timing belt, waterpump and gearbox rebuilt.

I am selling my fantastic condition Abarth Grande Punto in ‘Bianco 1949’ with red Abarth detailing. The car comes fully loaded and includes a massive service history, with all major work completed, including a cambelt, waterpump change and a fully rebuilt/uprated gearbox- a part that is both very expensive and very likely to fail on all Abarth GP’s, regardless of year.

The Abarth Grande Punto is its own model, not falling under the Fiat moniker. As such, it’s far rarer and now very much sought after as a future classic.

Given its nature, it comes with the highly tuneable 1.4 T Jet engine, breathed on by Abarth with accompanying upgrades. For its size, it's quite potent and has therefore got large 4 pot Brembo brakes, uprated suspension and anti-roll bars, an Abarth body kit and interior goodies and inredeibly comfortable leather Abarth sports seats.
There is so much punch to the engine; I do wonder whether this has had the Esseessee 180bhp tune, albeit this is not documented.

Engine and maintenance

The mileage is currently 89,039 miles and has a long MOT on it, running out on 11 January 2024, the advisories noted on the MOT have also now been carried out, as well as the headlights being refurbished to get rid of the usual plexi-hazing from the sun.

This car has no mechanical issues at all, the manual 6 speed gearbox is crisp and direct, the clutch has a perfect biting point and there are absolutely no errors messages or issues- it starts and drives perfectly as you’d expect for a car that’s been well cared for.

There is so much documented service history for this car, always by Italian car specialists - for simplicity the most recent work is listed below:

+ Fuel tank straps replaced at 88,763 miles
+ The last service was carried out at 85,806 miles. This included an oil/filter change, air filter, coolant flush and air con service.
+ Handbrake cable replaced and adjusted 81,416 miles
+ Full M32 gearbox rebuild with uprated 62mm end case bearings, revised oil galleries at 81,390 miles.
+ New rear brake calipers, CV boots, rear wheel bearings, heater matrix, AC condenser and radiator at 78,603 miles
+ Timing belt, waterpump and new auxiliary belt replaced at 74,450 miles
+ Full independent health check by specialist at 73,130 miles

Cosmetic and bodywork

The white bodywork with the red Abarth details looks fantastic and is in really good condition with no rust or deep blemishes, the paintwork still gleams and looks fantastic when clean and polished.

The genuine factory fitted Abarth body kit, with black 17 inch OEM black alloy wheels, makes it stand out from the crowd and invites some nice comments at petrol stations from other road users.

The car has 4 nearly new tyres, all replaced this year with roughly 6/7mm in tread.

Interior

The car is fully loaded: Ice cold air conditioning, cruise control, Blue&me connectivity, Blaupunkt premium sound system, Dynamic Stability Control, full black leather Abarth sports seats, leather sports steering wheel, on board trip computer, electric windows, steering wheel controls and digital climate control.

Summary

The car really is in fantastic condition, there may be some light imperfections to the paint, to be expected that a car of this age but I would say it’s in very good condition overall.

Issues; there is currently only one and that is the remote central locking buttons on the keyfob are functioning intermittently. The immobiliser and central locking operates perfectly from the lock but the button on the key fob does not. It’s a recent issue that I hope to resolve prior to sale. There is one key for the car, but Fiat will supply and code a new key for around £100.

This car has all the major work carried out including the most expensive and high failure rates parts, such as the timing belt, waterpump and gearbox. It’s wanted for nothing and is the perfect car for someone that’s looking for a genuine Abarth with an extensive background of being cared for by enthusiasts. The Abarth really does handle like a go kart on the road, an absolute hoot!

Reason for sale; Bought as a fun car to tide me over until my new car arrives, this has now been moved forward from the dealer, so sadly this has to go. As much as I’d love to just put it in the garage and use it on occasions, it would be a huge waste and an Italian car needs to be driven to stay healthy.

This car is fully HPI clear. I have been totally honest as I don’t want to waste anyone’s time but in return ask for the same courtesy, no canvassers or trade please.
