I put this together for myself as the best value starter pack, without sacrificing quality and with potential upgradability in mind. I have decided to go the acoustic route however, so it's up for sale.

These guitars are known for being inexpensive yet high quality, the best bang for buck without sacrificing performance. I purchased this one from a gigging musician who used it as his back up. The pickups are good as is, but with upgraded pickups it could sound like a £600+ guitar. So much potential, it could grow with the guitarist.
Amp:
The amp is fantastic too. Small but loud, its very clear with lots of different effects to play with, you can play all sorts of genres, metal, blues, rock, pop or reggae if that's your thing. You can even plug earphones into it or take it on the go with batteries. Extremely versatile.
