Acoustic Research AR-16 Speakers. Refurbished and Upgraded

A rare vintage Acoustic Research model, refurbished with new foam woofer surrounds and re-capped crossovers.
This model dates from around 1980, has a very solid, heavy cabinet and real wood finish. Originally they would have had foam grilles, but these have all perished by now. New foam is available. The tweeter is a Peerless unit that was used in many high quality speakers of the period. The crossover is adjustable with 3 settings which alter the tweeter output: flat, normal and decrease I think normal sounds best).
Like all old ARs, the original foam driver surrounds had disintegrated, and I have fitted new flexible foam surrounds to the original woofers.
The crossovers have been recapped with a blend of electrolytic and polypropylene film caps in parallel. It took several iterations with A/B testing to get best balance.
One speaker has a small chip in the corner (pictured), but they have been cleaned and given a coat of hard wax oil.
These have a very accurate, detailed, monitor like sound. The bass, in particular, is superb; deep but taut with very little overhang.
