WHAT IS A ‘HOMEPLUG’ & WHAT IS IT FOR? WHAT DOES IT DO FOR ME?
You have signed up for broadband (so that you can access the Internet). It arrives at your hub (or router). What then? Well, you can plug in puter directly to the hub with a cable (but only easily if the two are close by) OR you can use Wi-Fi so that your laptop and phone can also get online from different rooms. What‘s wrong with that? Several things - firstly, Wi-Fi is pretty slow (ever had YouTube ‘buffering’ or slow access to websites?). Secondly the physical range of Wi-Fi is very limited – and put a couple of room-dividing brick walls into the mix and then you may either loose the connection altogether, or else find that it’s now even slower than ever. Thirdly, Wi-Fi is potentially not very secure.

So what are the alternatives? You could ‘wire-up’ your whole home/business so that every device has a direct wired connection back to the hub – but that’s both disruptive & expensive (even though effective). OR, you could make use of your existing ‘mains’ ELECTRICAL wiring system to do the same job!
