Who doesnt enjoy getting pampered? It wont have escaped your attention that the Range Rover Mk3, introduced in 2002, is getting extremely cheap - and very few cars feel as special for so little. There has to be a catch, and of course, there are several. That doesnt mean a cheap Range Rover is a bad choice. If you think a bit of first-class comfort for steerage money is up your street, keep reading.When the Range Rover was launched in 1970, it created a new class of car. That basic vehicle lasted until 2001, and also spawned the Land Rover Discovery as well as the rebodied P38 Range Rover Mk2. Unlike its short-lived predecessor, the Range Rover Mk3 introduced a completely new construction. Losing the separate chassis, and gaining sophisticated suspension for vastly improved road manners, it also lost the last vestiges of being a farm implement; this Range Rover is a credible rival for any contemporary Rolls Royce or Bentley. It rides softly on air springs, handles well at speed, and has refined petrol or diesel engines with unobtrusive all-wheel-drive. Its off-road credentials remain exceptional, and it is so cleverly designed that the rough stuff isnt quite the existential threat to the bodywork you might expect.Despite its large size, the Range Rover didnt achieve the maximum five-star rating in Euro NCAP crash tests, instead it was awarded four stars. Still, as youd expect it has an immensely strong body but the safety organisation highlighted risks to the drivers and passengers knees from hard points behind the facia. On the plus side, all models get eight airbags including curtain bags for those in the rear and electronic safety aids complement the all-wheel traction. As youd expect considering it is almost five metres long, the Range Rover has a huge boot while the split tailgate (the bottom section folds down like a pick-up truck) makes loading and unloading larger objects easy. It also makes a useful seat for changing out of muddy boots. The load area itself is wide and deep - ideal for large amounts of luggage for long trips abroad. The rear seats split and fold down for longer items and the maximum carrying capacity is more than 2,000 litres. If you plan on doing serious off-roading (however unlikely that seems in a Range Rover) theres also an optional VentureCam. This is a wireless video camera which transmits a live colour picture on the dash screen from anywhere around the vehicle and helps avoid rocks when off roading. Land Rove.
