►Exterior
Considering this is almost 70 years old and has never been repainted or repaired the body and paint are in remarkable condition. Aside from a some of spots of surface rust around the car the bodywork looks to be very good, although there are a couple of dings in the of side rear door.
The black paint is good, original and will polish to a good shine, with some age-related patina around the car.
The brightwork is presentable, the grill, headlamp bezels and side trim are very nice although the front bumper has some blistering in the chrome. It has lost one front side light lens and the other needs new trim.
The hubcaps are presentable although with some micro pitting in the finish, and the tyres have very good tread. Their age is unknown, but the car has been stored in the dark.
►Interior
The Consul's cabin is a real stand out point of the car, the red seats look great against the black paint work and the condition is fabulous, barley a mark or crease on the seats and the door cards are flat and unmarked. Even the red rubber flooring is in great condition and the original headlining is superb.
The dashboard is very basic, a full width painted metal dashtop and lower shelf with a small instrument pod. The paint has flaked a little from the binnacle surround and lower shelf front, but the red panel is flat and the dials look good.
The hard steering wheel has some age marks in the surface but otherwise is very good.
►Mechanicals
The 1.5 litre four pot engine fires up easily and idles well, sitting at the correct temperature for the few minutes we observed. The car has a manual column shift transmission which selects gears smoothly.
It has been maintained by the owner and a group of car minded friends for as long as anyone can remember so it has been kept serviced and running well with any additional work carried out as needed.
In the boot the new owner will find some spares, a new track rod and differential oil seal, fuel pump and a crown wheel and pinion - there is a slight whine from the rear which is very common and doesn't affect driving and the owner had been intending to replace for some time.
The car runs well but having been laid up for some time we would recommend replacing all fluids and inspecting the brakes and hoses before driving.
