We consider ourselves fortunate to be offered some fabulous low mileage Boxsters and Caymans from long term owners, and GJ52LUA is a great example of this. I was on my way back from London recently having delivered a car, and received a call from a chap in the New Forest, wondering whether I’d be interested in the 41,600 mile Boxster S he’d owned for over 15 years? “I’ll be there in an hour”, I replied, and later that afternoon the car was on my trailer and heading back to our North Devon HQ.

GJ52LUA is a 2003 facelift 986 Boxster 3.2 S Tiptronic, in ever-popular Guards Red with a black/grey SportDesign interior. The SportDesign package (option 012) comprised a set of black leather hard shell sports seats, a patterned black dash/door card material, with textured grey trim to the centre console, gear selector, instrument surrounds, seat backs and rollover bar. The car is also fitted with a couple of well chosen options – 18″ 996.2 Carrera wheels and cruise control.

The previous owner bought the car in April 2007 from well-respected dealers 911 Virgin at 28,500 miles, and used the car sparingly but consistently over the next 11 years to 2018, when a spell working overseas meant the car was garaged for a few years, until being missioned in August 2022 by JMG Porsche in Wimborne. The service history prehensive, with 14 OPC/specialist service stamps in the maintenance record, backed up with invoices right back to the first service in 2004. The MOT history is virtually unblemished too, with just the one fail at its first test in 2005 for tyres and emissions, another advisory for tyres in 2007, and an advisory on the latest MOT from August 2022 for an oil leak – it isn’t an oil leak, just a weeping drive shaft seal which we are attending to as part of our inspection and preparation.

The condition of the car is excellent throughout, the paintwork is especially good, with just a couple of tiny stone chips on the bonnet. The interior is also in great condition, the only blemishes being a bit of wear to the grey hardback seat shells where they have rubbed on the rear bulkhead over the years. Other than that, it is in great order throughout, the wheels are unmarked and we have just fitted a new set of Toyo Proxes Sport tyres.

On the road, GJ52LUA drives superbly, with strong performance from the 260bhp 3.2-litre flat six, smooth gearchanges from the Tiptronic gearbox, precise steering and powerful brakes. The purity of response and handling balance that these Boxsters deliver is fantastic, and this one with less than 42,000 miles feels as fresh and tight as a two year old car.
