I’am looking to start a novice/amateur Triathlon & obstacle run team, for those who are interested in swimming, running, cycling, the countryside and/or general fitness. I’m relatively fit, looking to do something fun to build my fitness and looking to make friends doing it! Hoping to find people who are looking for a social group and support from others to be able to get stronger in fitness. I’m relatively new when it comes to triathlons and obstacle runs so this team is going to be great for complete beginners, intermediates and even advanced (if you have some patience). The following is just a little bit about the sports, about myself and the thoughts and aims I have for creating this team. Triathlons- as most probably know involves a swim, cycle and run. The sport has grown hugely recently and has many groups, teams and events across the country. Its a sport that can be done most of the year round but gets busier with more events between April to October. Theirs many different distances but there are mainly four distances; beginner, Sprint, Olympic, ultra distance. For events wise the big races of the year] are Hever Castle and London Virgin Triathlon. This sport can be mainly individual but many teams take part! Obstacle Runs- These are slightly harder to describe and relatively new but have become a huge trend the last few years. The best way to describe it is as a run that involves obstacles (in the name) often thought of like the army exercise etc. Attendees participate in obstacles such as trenches, walls, ponds, tyres, mud, mud and a bit more mud. Their are many variations of this that go all year round from daytime to nighttime and theres even themed runs as well. The most well known obstacle run is Tough Mudder (which I would consider one of the tougher ones & it is the largest by far) and others such as Spartan & Rat Race. These races are great for teams of people to work together, achieve something great and overall show to others and yourself your fitness! Myself- 21 just finished uni, work in events and have worked at lots of sports events and have become quite jealous about just watching and wanting to join in! my fitness is reasonable I've started jogging anything between 5-10k but some days the end of the drive seems far, cycling 30k at the moment and swimming well I like swimming so I find it easy but I need to be able to pick up my speed a bit. My reasoning for starting this team is that I train mainly on my own and it gets tedious and lonely which sometimes gets the better of me. Im also looking for a social group as well and to be able to say that my speciality/hobby is in triathlons & running (eventually). My interests also include NFL, F1, Country music and events, so if you like any of these well its an extra bonus but looking to learn about and experience other peoples interests. Aims for the team- to create a group of people who train together on weekends and evenings. Take part in events during the year and aim for a challenge at the end of the year so the group can improve. Training wise try to do 2-3 of the disciplines of triathlons sports at a weekend and general fitness, individual sports during the week. Socials and general- It would also be great to be able to mix with other sports and fitness; gym, ball games all the way to attending events and pub visits. Who for- looking for anyone who likes the sound of this, any age and all range of fitness levels. Nothing I have written is in stone and it will be great to get together with people who are interested in being part of this to finalise and come up with a schedule and plans for the year. Equipment wise theres nothing really you need. A road bike is helpful but not essential, mountain bikes can do the trick as well. If we get enough interest it would be great to get some kit made next year.This team is also open for people who just want to do triathlons or people who want to do running (as much as much or as little as you want to do). Starting up well this side of christmas I realise is ambitious so I would like to start officially in Early January. But would be great to meet up in december to get together for a drink to get to know one another and plan the team. Area wise Im from Burgess Hill so looking mainly in Mid Sussex area, Brighton etc, or as far as people are willing to travel.
