We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person, couple, or two friends, with cooking, restaurant and housekeeping experience, looking to have a taste of island life this summer. Helping us in our small but busy, family run tea room and guest house, these are temporary, seasonal positions available from May to September 2023.
Our tea room and guest house are situated on the stunning island of St. Martin's, one of five inhabited islands 28 miles off the Cornish coast. With approximately 140 residents year round, a general stores/post office, bakery, hotel and pub, the positions available will suit those able to embrace rural life in a small but friendly community.
General duties will include serving customers and guests, clearing and wiping tables, operating the dishwasher and maintaining high standards of food safety at all times.
You will also be helping to:-
Make cakes and desserts.
Bake bread.
Prepare, cook and serve food to order.
Pick fresh produce from the garden.
Carry out changeovers to a high standard.
You'll ideally have:-
Previous cooking and housekeeping experience with an eye for presentation and detail.
A desire to give excellent service to ensure customer and guest satisfaction.
Good personal presentation and hygiene, a smiley, friendly manner and a positive attitude.
The ability to follow instructions, learn quickly and work well within a small team.
A willingness to learn and share ideas.
Great organisational skills and be able to work well under pressure.
CIEH Level 2 Food Safety in Catering (or be willing to obtain it).
Simple, shared (double bed) accommodation on the premises is included; a converted granite shed with en suite shower facilities. Breakfast and lunch when on duty are provided and cooking facilities are available to use in the main kitchen.
Up to 40 hours per week over 6 days, with Friday afternoons and Saturdays off. A typical working day would be 10am to 5pm Sunday to Thursday, plus Friday mornings and some Monday evenings.
Hourly rate: £10.60 per hour for workers aged 23 years and over, £10.20 per hour for workers aged 21 to 22 years and £8.60 per hour for workers aged 18 to 20 years.
