A well-preserved Verithin from 1962 with period hard case. Hofner branded diamond pickups and tailpiece. Super lightweight at 4.7lbs (2.1kgs). Serial number 1133.
Cosmetically there are some small dings and play wear and the hardware has tarnished in places, but overall in remarkably good condition for a 61-year-old guitar. The cherry red finish is still bright and has developed some attractive lacquer checking visible in the right light.
This Verithin was owned by Allan Bailey, rhythm guitarist in '60s beat group, the Shindigs (formerly the Daltons). From Crawley, they were contemporaries of the Beatles and like them recorded on the Parlophone label.
They appeared on the television show Ready Steady Win (ITV's version of Ready Steady Go)and might have gone on to greater things if the the Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones hadn't given them a low score, which helped to knock them out in the heats.
