GasGas Pro 125cc 2 stroke Trials Bike. Unknown past history, but was a non-runner when we purchased it. Use by my teenage son for the last 2 years at the local trials club. Had a full frame and engine strip down last winter. Front fork oil changed and new seals. New brake pads front and rear. Clutch, crank and piston replaced, new clutch top hat bearing and new engine seals. Rear brake caliper replaced. Reed valves replaced. New thermostat/fan switch. New handlebar grips. New swing arm bearings fitted. Front exhaust box repacked with wire wool and rear box repacked with padding. The frame was cleaned to bare metal, primed and painted in gloss black.
The bike has always had a leak between the two exhaust boxes. I have tried to seal, but there is still a small leak. The bike has always been difficult to start, would run well, but then soot up the plug. This winter I have fitted a new PHBL26 carb and discovered the original carb was highly modified without changing parts e.g. drilled out jets and reprofiled slide. It starts easier now with a hotter running plug (BPR4ES). My son has now changed bike so I don't know if the carb / plug change has solved the sooting problems.
