Streatham Space Project is looking for a Duty Manager to join our team.
This is a part time role, between 12 - 18 hours per week over a flexible rota, with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts where required. It will be a fixed term contract of 6 months with the possibility of extension.
Streatham Space Project is a neighbourhood venue that hosts Theatre, Music, Comedy, Spoken Word, Visual Art, Filming & Recording, Rehearsals and Private Events. Our spaces are shared by critically acclaimed national and international artists, young people at the start of their creative journeys, and children and their families from the Streatham area and beyond.
The Duty Manager is an indispensable member of the Streatham Space Project team.
You'll be in charge of running the building when it is open for events or open to the public, ensuring that the artists or clients have everything they need, and that audience members have a fantastic and safe visit. You will be responsible for leading our team of Venue Assistants and volunteers in delivering our varied program of live events. You'll also look after hirers who have booked our spaces for events like private parties, rehearsals, film shoots, or fundraisers.
You are essentially an event manager on shift, responsible for the bar, handling cash, selling and checking tickets, getting audiences to their seats, and communicating with the artists and technicians to successfully plan their performance start times, intervals and end times. It's your job to keep the venue looking good, running safely and feeling welcoming to all our visitors and staff.

This role is managed by the Venue Manager who will support the successful candidate in learning the role. We will train you in how to run the venue, and can provide first aid, health and safety, and fire marshal training.
Key Responsibilities:
The Staff
Supervise a small team of Venue Assistants and Volunteers and deploy them to make the shift run smoothly
Communicate event details to staff on shift including special requirements passed on from the Venue and Events Manager
Help the Venue Manager maximise the performance of all employees through teamwork, motivation and performance management
Handover thoroughly to colleagues at the end of a shift, maintaining consistency for the artists, clients and visitors
Assist with the training of new staff members
The Admin
Set up and run the till payment system (currently Izettle)
Run the ticket selling software for on the door sales (currently Line Up)
Cash up ensuring accuracy and investigate inaccuracies
Create venue briefing documents
Provide a clear and detailed end of day report
Help the Venue Manager with ordering stock and supplies
Accurately report incidents and accidents
Take on other tasks as reasonably required
Event Management
Ensure that events are set up properly, run smoothly and to time, and closely follow the event information sent by the Venue Manager
Be the first point of contact for visiting artists and hirers, clearly and confidently guiding them through the process of running their event
Manage ticket sales and check audiences in to performances following the venue capacity limits
Make sure all internal and external spaces are kept clean and tidy and are being used for their intended purposes
Work on and supervise the bar supporting Venue Assistant staff to build product knowledge and maximise sales
Closedown the building ensuring it’s clean and ready for a fresh start the next day
Health and Safety
Act as the first aider for the venue when on shift
Oversee venue cleaning on shift
Clean the beer lines weekly
Ensure the health, safety and comfort of all users of the building at all times
Ensure compliance with the venue Health & Safety Policy including paperwork and maintain standards
Ensure compliance with the Venue’s Public Entertainment and Premises License
Be responsible for the emergency and evacuation procedures when on shift
Always be watchful and maintain the venue security procedures to prevent theft and ensure the security of cash, equipment and valuable items
Ensure that the building is properly secured at the end of a shift and/or when you lock up
The Visitors
Deliver outstanding customer experience to all audiences, artists and hirers
Be open and available to all visitors to the venue and confidently communicate the venue activities
Problem solve and manage complaints as they arise, passing on to senior management if necessary
