The holiday cottage is a former croft house set amid working croft land with outstanding sea views across the Minch (sea) to the Isle of Skye and the Outer Isles. Located 8 miles north of Gairloch on the road to Melvaig and the Rua Reidh Lighthouse. The Wester Ross area is a designated area of natural beauty. This is a spectacular mountain area with a dramatic coastline. There are many small sandy beaches and fantastic places to walk. The Torridon mountains lie to the south and Ullapool and the mountains of the far north about 1.5 hours away to the north. Gairloch is a great place to be based to explore the North West Scottish Highlands form Skye to the far north. A car is essential; the traffic is negligible. For hill walkers the cottage is close to a number of Munros and Corbetts including The Fannichs, An Teallach, Slioch, The Fisherfield Mountains and the Torridon Mountains.

The location is perfect for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits on the water, cycling, walking, sightseeing, bird and whale watching or for those who just want to get away from it all. Wildlife is in abundance particularly bird and sea life. The area was featured on the BBC One Show for whale and dolphin spotting at as well as coverage of Loch Ewe and the Russian Arctic Convoys.

The beach at Melvaig is stoney and has a small slipway for launching boats. It is ideal location for Sea Kayaking. Further along the coast is a sandy beach a Peterburn. On a summers day you are likely to only have to share it with a few sheep :-) There is also a short climbing pitch with bolts.

We have many families from the UK and abroad and get great feedback. In the three years we have let the cottage we have had no adverse comments and everyone seems to love the cottage. Having stayed in many holiday cottages over the years we have tried to equip the cottage with everything you might need to enjoy your stay.

The cottage has three bedrooms comfortably sleeping 5 and has a cosy sitting room and a dining kitchen. The sitting room has a window seat and a Morso Wood burning Stove. The seat is a great place to sit and relax and watch the boats go by and look out for passing whales.

Unfortunately we cannot do short lets or weekend lets - rental is generally from Saturday to Saturday only.

The cost for staying varies - £525 to £825 per week. If you are staying on your own or are a couple we offer a discount depending on what weeks you are staying. Electricity is charged extra although the first £10 is included. A starter pack of logs is provided for the stove, free of charge. A damage deposit of £100 is required.

We allow well behaved dogs the cottage. Children are very welcome and many families have enjoyed the cottage. We have a travel cot for infants.
